Jamshedpur: The city administration today demolished around 25-30 makeshift shops near Sunsunia Gate outside Tata Steel plant boundary. These makeshift shops were earmarked as encroachments.
While clearing the encroachments, the district administration also had to face slight opposition from the shopkeepers.
A large number of heavy vehicles enter the company gate through Sunsunia Gate and a number of makeshift shops had been erected at the place. The shops used to draw crowds from labourers and locals and this was a reason for causing accidents at the place.
The encroachments were cleared on the instruction of Dhalbhum SDO. A magistrate was also deputed at the place to thwart any resistance.
After a brief period of protests, the shopkeepers themselves removed their wares and left the place.
The executive magistrate D K Pandey said that the encroachments were removed at the orders of the Dhalbhum SDO.
Reacting on the demolition, the BJP leader Subodh Kumar Srivastava said that the district administration should also think about the livelihood of the shopkeepers who are being affected by the demolition drive.
