JAMSHEDPUR – MGM Hospital’s mortuary has encountered significant problems with one of its deep freezers, leading to issues of decomposition and discomfort in the vicinity.
According to the hospital superintendent, Dr. Ravindra Kumar, the freezer, which was acquired under CSR from a company and is still under warranty, has been pending repair.
This malfunctioning unit, one of two six-chambered freezers, has a damaged lock that has prevented it from cooling properly, resulting in the rapid decomposition of bodies within 24 hours.
Currently, eight bodies are stored in the mortuary. Six are in the functioning unit, while two have had to be placed in an air-conditioned space due to the malfunction.
The unpleasant odors emanating from the non-functional freezer have been a source of discomfort for patients and their families in nearby wards, particularly amid the summer heat.
