Tata Steel MD and VP Charged with Negligence in Factory Worker’s Fatal Accident
Factory Inspector Dhirendra Munda has filed legal charges against Tata Steel MD TV Narendran and Vice President Probal Ghosh, following a fatal accident at the company’s Jamshedpur plant that resulted in the death of a worker.
JAMSHEDPUR – A legal case has been filed against Tata Steel’s MD TV Narendran and Vice President Probal Ghosh in relation to a workplace accident that claimed the life of contract laborer Bablu Gope.
The incident occurred on April 5 at Tata Steel’s Jamshedpur facility, where Gope was fatally injured by falling hot slag while working on a lance jam cutting platform.
Factory Inspector Dhirendra Munda led the investigation, identifying unsafe work practices and inadequate safety measures at the site as contributing factors.
The charges, filed in the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Jamshedpur Court, cite multiple violations of the Factory Act 1948, including sections regarding workplace safety and employer responsibilities.
The inquiry revealed that Gope was using an iron crowbar to dislodge jam material when the accident happened, with the resultant slag fall being attributed to precarious working conditions and insufficient protective measures.
This legal action emphasizes the accountability of corporate executives in ensuring safe work environments, highlighting ongoing concerns about industrial safety standards.
