In a demonstration of social media’s power, nearly Rs 2 lakh was raised for seven-year-old Khushwant Sahu’s eye operation in Jamshedpur, following an appeal by BJP leader Dinesh Kumar.
JAMSHEDPUR – Social media has emerged as a lifeline for many in need, as illustrated by the recent fundraising campaign in Jamshedpur.
Seven-year-old Khushwant Sahu required surgery for both eyes, with an estimated cost between 1.5 to 2 lakh rupees.
His father, Akash Sahu, a resident of Harharguttu under Bagbeda in Jamshedpur, who is grappling with financial difficulties, approached former BJP district president Dinesh Kumar for help.
The family’s woes have been compounded by a series of unfortunate events, including the death of Akash’s two-year-old child two months ago, and Khushwant’s worsened condition after a failed eye operation.
Eye specialists advised seeking treatment at the renowned Shankar Netralaya in Chennai, where the doctors gave an appointment for August 18.
Dinesh Kumar, recognizing the family’s hardship, initiated a crowdfunding campaign on social media, urging people to donate.
His appeal on platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp resonated with the public, leading to nearly two lakh rupees being collected in just three days.
Donors sent the funds directly to Khushwant’s father’s bank account, who is now with his son at Shankara Netralaya, ready for the operation.
Expressing his gratitude, Akash Sahu thanked Dinesh Kumar and all contributors, while the BJP leader rejoiced over the successful campaign and thanked the donors.
He wished for a successful surgery for Khushwant and requested prayers from the public.
