Proclamation Notice Pasted at Theft Accuseds Residence with Warnings; House Seizure Threatened Under Section 82 of CrPC
The Jamshedpur police pasted an advertisement at the residence of Akash Gop, a known thief, warning him to surrender within a month or face the seizure of his property.
JAMSHEDPUR – On Friday, the Jamshedpur police pasted a proclamation notice at the house of one theft accused, who is absconding in theft cases.
A Gope is accused of committing numerous thefts in Birsanagar and Govindpur police station areas.
The police team arrived at A Gope’s house in Birsanagar zone number three with drums and pasted advertisements not only outside his residence but also in the surrounding areas.
Birsanagar police station in-charge Vivek Mathuri described A Gope as a "vicious thief" and confirmed that four theft cases are currently registered against him.
A court-issued warrant is already in place against Gope, and the public pasting of the proclamation notice at his house serves as a stark warning.
The police have given Gope a month to surrender; failure to comply will result in the seizure and attachment of his house.
Under Section 82(4) IPC, when a person accused of commission of the offences punishable under the below-stated Sections of the Indian Penal Code of 1860 (IPC) fails to appear before the Court as required under the proclamation, the Court may, if it deems fit, declare such person as a ‘proclaimed offender’ and make an announcement to that effect.
