Baliguma Sukhna Basti Residents Construct Bridge; Frustration Grows Over Delayed Official Bridge
Angry at years of delay, residents of Baliguma Sukhna Basti near Dimna build a bamboo bridge at their own expense, to ease children’s path to school.
JAMSHEDPUR – Residents of Baliguma Sukhna Basti, located near the National Highway adjacent to Dimna, have taken matters into their own hands and constructed a bamboo bridge at their own expense.
The action comes out of frustration that the proposed bridge, meant to connect Dimna to Baliguma Sukhna Basti, has not been built for several years.
Villagers revealed that the foundation stone for this bridge was laid during the tenure of the previous government when MLA Saryu Rai was in office.
Despite a change in leadership with Banna Gupta now in charge, the bridge has yet to be constructed.
The urgency of the situation was exacerbated by the loss of the previous bridge, which was washed away by rain, leading to significant challenges in traveling from Dimna to Sukhna Basti.
This delay has particularly impacted children, who faced difficulty in going to school, and thus, the community decided to act.
By constructing the bridge themselves, the residents aim to ensure that people, especially school-going children, do not have to risk their lives crossing the highway.
The community’s effort serves as a stark reminder of the importance of local infrastructure and highlights the public’s dissatisfaction with the delay in the government’s action to fulfill its commitments.
