Due to extreme heat, Jharkhand extends school holidays for classes up to 8th until June 21, marking the third extension after summer vacations.
RANCHI – Given the escalating heat in Jharkhand, the state’s School Education and Literacy Department has announced another extension to school holidays.
Per the latest order issued by Education Secretary K Ravi Kumar, all classes from kindergarten to eighth grade across all school types in the state will remain closed until June 21. However, classes from ninth to twelfth grade can proceed until 11:00 am.

The departmental directive indicated that separate measures would be implemented during this period to offset the potential educational impact on students.
This marks the third instance of class postponement for younger students. Initially, schools were instructed to close until June 15, followed by an extension until June 17.
The majority of the state’s districts are grappling with temperatures consistently above 40 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department’s forecast, which initially predicted the arrival of monsoon rains by June 15, prompted the initial holiday extension.
However, the ongoing delay of the monsoon and sustained heat has warranted further extension of the holiday period.
