An FIR lodged against a jawan for allegedly trespassing and intending to exploit a minor girl, causes unease in Chaibasa.
CHAIBASA – An FIR was lodged on Friday at the Muffasil police station by family members of a minor girl, accusing a jawan from the CRPF battalion of trespassing with malicious intent.
Previously, the local villagers had encircled the Jojohatu camp on Thursday in protest.
Following the FIR, the minor girl was questioned by police officials and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
The girl resides at her maternal uncle’s house in Jojohatu village.
The FIR, lodged by her maternal uncle, recounts the event of Thursday night when they were startled awake by the sound of someone breaking into the house.
Upon investigating, they discovered the CRPF jawan hiding in the girl’s room.
The jawan allegedly manhandled and threw the uncle on the ground before fleeing back to the camp.
The following morning, the uncle informed the villagers about the incident, leading to a congregation of villagers surrounding the camp, demanding legal action against the CRPF jawan.
However, the day was largely spent in attempts to quell the agitation and convince the villagers.
Finally, on Friday, the girl’s maternal uncle and other family members registered an FIR at the Mufassil police station.
The case was thoroughly explained to the family and the minor girl by the Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer, the Sadar Inspector, and the Women’s Police Station in-charge.
Following the preliminary investigation, the CWC also conducted inquiries about the incident.
Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Dilip Khalko, confirmed that the matter is under police investigation.
