Thieves capitalize on heat-induced rooftop slumber and power outage, resulting in the theft of cash, jewelry, and a scooty.
JAMSHEDPUR – Last night, under the cover of a power outage, thieves targeted the residence of Shambhu Kumar Jha in Rajendra Nagar, Ulidih, Mango, Jamshedpur.
With the scorching heat prompting Jha and his family to sleep on their rooftop, the burglars seized the opportunity to break into the house.
They made off with INR 65,000 in cash and around two lakh worth of jewelry from a broken almirah, along with an electric Scooty parked outside.
The stolen goods were reportedly loaded onto the scooty, facilitating a quick escape.
A written complaint has since been lodged at the local police station, triggering an investigation.
Shambhu Kumar Jha, the landlord, explained that the house was left vulnerable as the family slept on the terrace due to the extreme heat and power cut.
The thieves exploited an empty space of about one and a half feet between the gate and the terrace to gain entry into the house.
Along with the cash, jewelry, and the electric scooty, the thieves also stole an LCD TV and a mobile.
The theft was discovered when Jha’s wife awoke to the sound of the scooty and noticed two thieves making away with their belongings.
Despite raising an alarm, the thieves were not apprehended.
The incident has left the Jha family devastated, with threats of a “Halla Bol” protest being organized by local BJP leader Vikas Singh if the stolen items are not recovered soon and the thieves remain at large.
