On International Street Vendor’s Day, displaced Mango Dimna shopkeepers protest for their right to work, demanding rightful resettlement.
JAMSHEDPUR – On the occasion of International Street Vendor’s Day, a usually celebratory day took on a somber tone as the displaced shopkeepers of Mango Dimna Road observed it as a day of mourning.
They launched a protest against the district administration’s neglect towards their resettlement.

Uniting under the banner of Mango Footpath Shopkeepers Association, these once-bustling vendors turned activists revealed that hundreds of shanty shops along Dimna Road were destroyed under the guise of beautification.
This action has left many without their livelihoods, exacerbating the issue of employment in the area.
Instead of celebrating World Street Vendor Day as a tribute to the invaluable role they play in the economy, the shopkeepers mourned their current predicament.
They lamented the unfortunate circumstance in Jamshedpur, where street vendors and shopkeepers have been displaced without the enforcement of the country’s policy of “first resettlement and then uprooting.”
The vendors called for action to address their grievances and ensure their rightful resettlement.
