Surojit Mahto, a Jamshedpur resident, falls victim to a scammer who withdrew INR 2.21 lakhs from his SBI and Bank of India accounts, masquerading as a SBI Debit Card activation service.
Jamshedpur – Surojit Mahto, a resident of Nawadih, under Dhalbhumgarh police station jurisdiction in rural Jamshedpur, has been victimized by an elaborate banking scam.
A swindler, claiming to be from the State Bank of India’s (SBI) Debit Card department, fraudulently withdrew INR 2 lakh 21 thousand 666 from Mahto’s SBI and Bank of India accounts.
The incident took place on May 14th. An FIR has since been lodged at the Bistupur Cyber Police Station based on Mahto’s statement.
Mahto reports receiving a call on May 14th at 4.30 pm from the number 8276054881.
The caller, posing as an SBI Debit Card department official, requested details pertaining to Mahto’s Debit Card. Mahto complied, providing the requested card number, pin number, and card validity to supposedly activate the Debit Card.
The imposter then instructed Mahto to download the AnyDesk app on his mobile phone. Unaware of the fraudulent intent, Mahto followed the instructions.
It was only later he discovered three unauthorized transactions had been made from his Bank of India and SBI accounts.
INR 98,345, 25,000, and 98,321 were withdrawn from the Bank of India account, while two transactions were made from the SBI account, totaling a loss of INR 2 lakh 21 thousand 666.
Police are currently investigating the case.
