In the case related to Kadma Shastri Nagar’s disturbance, the court approves bail for Advocate Chandan Kumar Choubey and seven others.
Jamshedpur: In a significant development in the case related to disturbing communal harmony in Kadma’s Shastri Nagar, Jamshedpur, the court of ADJ-2 Abhash Verma granted bail to advocate Chandan Kumar Choubey and seven others on Wednesday.
The seven other accused include Chandan Das alias Chandan Ruhidas, Bhola Lohar, Shankar Rao alias S Shankar Rao, Kanhaiya Pandey, Bhim Yadav, Anirudh Kumar Giri, and Rajesh Choubey.
However, the court denied bail to another accused, Ritesh Kumar Jha.
The decision on the bail pleas of BJP leaders Abhay Singh, Sudhanshu Ojha, Ranjit Kumar Pandit, Umesh Singh, Sandeep Pandey, Mukesh Kumar Mishra, Javed Sheikh, Rafiq Mandal, Jitendra Kumar Pandey, and Gopi Pramanik, who have been in jail for the past month, will be pronounced on May 22.
The case pertains to an incident on April 9 when communal harmony in Shastri Nagar, Kadma, was disrupted, leading to tension between two communities that also involved firing.
Despite the police’s attempts to disperse the crowd by firing warning shots in the air, the situation remained tense.
Jamshedpur’s SSP Prabhat Kumar was even pelted with stones.
A curfew was imposed in Kadma following the incident, and several police personnel, including Sub-Divisional Officer Piyush Kumar Sinha, Deputy Superintendent of Police Kamal Kishore, and Executive Magistrate, were seriously injured.
The case was filed by JNAC city manager Anay Raj against thousands of unknown individuals and 118 nominees, charging them with attempted murder, hurting religious sentiments, and obstructing government work.
