Jharkhand’s persistent anti-corruption activist Ajit Kumar Sao, frustrated by a decade of inaction, attempted self-immolation only to be arrested at the Jamshedpur district headquarters.
Jamshedpur – Ajit Kumar Sao, a resident of Dhalbhumgarh and a prominent anti-corruption activist in Jharkhand, was arrested at the district headquarters of Jamshedpur following a pre-announced attempt at self-immolation.
Sao has been waging a relentless battle against alleged corruption in Kokpada block for the past ten years.
Despite Sao’s consistent efforts, which included correspondence with the President, Prime Minister, and Home Minister of India, no action has been taken against the alleged corruption.
Feeling desperate and determined to keep his movement alive, Sao decided to set himself on fire.

Sao arrived at the district headquarters with a can of petrol.
Quick action from the police personnel and the magistrate present on the scene led to his immediate arrest before he could carry out his drastic plan.
Sao alleged a massive scam in Kokapada block, claiming that out of a one crore scheme, 90 lakhs have been siphoned off fraudulently.
If investigated thoroughly, he asserts, many officials would find themselves behind bars.
Magistrate Sunil Kumar, present during the incident, assured that Sao’s allegations would be thoroughly investigated.
“The person who came here intending to commit suicide has been taken into custody, and we will probe the accusations he has made,” he stated.
