The famous Brazilian writer Paolo Coelho has come out in support of Pakistan politician Maryam Nawaz and has condoned her mispronounciation of his name. In a tweet, he remarked: “I make mistakes very often in pronunciation of foreign names, so don’t be critical.”
Maryam Nawaz has come under a lot of social media flak for her mispronouncing the famous writer’s name.
Often, Pakistani politicians say many silly things like ‘Japan-Germany as neighboring countries’.
Once again the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz has become the target of critics for mispronunciations during her journey. Maryam got into trouble by mispronouncing Paulo Coelho, the famous Brazilian author of many popular books including The Alchemist.
Maryam Nawaz was talking about personal matters in an interview. At one stage, she said, ‘I read the Brazilian writer Paulo Quedo with great pleasure. He wrote (The) Alchemist and Warrior of Light.’
As soon as this interview aired, there was a storm on social media. Everyone posted the video of that part of the interview with different humor. A university student wrote, ‘A new writer has arrived, Paulo Quedo.’ The student’s video portion of the interview has been viewed nearly 800,000 times on Twitter alone.
Another student wrote the name ‘Paolo Codo’ and posted it with a smiley emoticon.
But this time the incident has taken a great turn, the world-famous writer Paulo Coelho himself has spoken about it.
On Twitter, the Brazilian writer Coelho shared the video of Mariam’s speech and said, “I often make mistakes in pronouncing foreign names, so don’t take it as a criticism.”
