Tata Steel Foundation launches Johar Haat in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: Tata Steel Foundation today launched Johar Haat, a space dedicated for best of art, craft, cuisine and talent from tribes across India.

This is a gift to citizens of Jamshedpur while at the same time promoting and celebrating the art & culture of tribes. The Haat will convene for a week every month at Prakriti Vihar in Kadma, with artisans and chefs from different tribes will create an immersive cultural experience which also brings economic gain and entrepreneurial experience for communities.

Chanakya Chaudhary, Director, Tata Steel Foundation & Vice President Corporate Services, Tata Steel who was the Chief Guest of the inaugural function said, “Tata Steel Foundation have been trying to bring this Haat since last couple of years. We have been doing mega events like Samvaad and other programmes every year to promote tribal culture and identity. We wish to see more participation from the residents. We aim to ensure Johar Haat every month during the same period.”

Other dignitaries present during the function were Atrayee Sanyal, Vice-President, Human Resource Management, Tata Steel, Uttam Singh, Vice-President, Iron Making, Tata Steel, Sourav Roy, Chief Executive Officer, Tata Steel Foundation, Debdoot Mohanty, Chief Corporate Services, Tata Steel Kalinganagar, Mukul Vinayak Choudhari- Chief, Sports Excellence Centres, Dr Sudhir Rai, General Manager, Medical Services, Tata Steel, Pranay Sinha, Chief Corporate Services, Tata Steel Jamshedpur and Arvind Kumar Sinha, Chief Security & Brand Protection, CR Manjhi, Managing Committee, Tribal Culture Society, Binapani Mahato, Managing Committee, Tribal Culture Society among other.

Major attraction this time were stalls of Tribal Fashion Jewellary (Wancho Tribe, Arunachal Pradesh), Dokra Craft (MUriya Tribe, Chattisgarh), Navjeevan Co-Operative (Ho Tribe, Odisha) among others.

Each Haat will have live demonstrations, masterclasses, story sessions, cinema and great food complementing an array of home décor, handloom and textile, jewellery, paintings and organic products on sale. This will serve as a first-ever ‘diversified marketplace’ for tribal craft and cuisine in Jamshedpur.
