Tata Steel to organise Jamshedpur Run-a-thon on November 20

The Company will plant one sapling for every registration done to promote the cause of sustainability

Jamshedpur: Tata Steel Jamshedpur Run-a-thon 2022–an important event in the steel city’s sporting calendar-is all set for the get-set-go mark on November 20.

Jamshedpur Run-a-thon is a marquee event which is organised every year to instil the sense of fitness among the citizens of Jamshedpur. It is happening in ‘physical mode’ after a gap of two years with a theme of “Fitness is Fun, Just Run!”

Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President Corporate Services Tata Steel said, “Post pandemic all of us have realised the importance of health and fitness and Jamshedpur Run-a-thon is the perfect event to kick-start the habit of healthy living which can be achieved in an enjoyable manner. The route this year has been meticulously selected keeping in mind that the runners experience the iconic spots of Jamshedpur thereby giving them a glimpse of clean and green Jamshedpur. Since a physical Run-a-thon is happening after a gap of 2 years, I encourage citizens of Jamshedpur to come and participate in good numbers.”

Jamshedpur Run-a-thon is an event that not only witnesses participation from all age groups but also provides a platform where people can rejuvenate and relish the experience.

The route this year has been charted to ensure that the runners experience the iconic spots of Jamshedpur in their early morning run. From lush green Kadma-Sonari Link road to Tata Steel Zoological Park to Jayanti Sarovar to Jubilee Park to The Furnace. Jamshedpur Run-a-thon 2022 will refresh the sense of a Clean & Green Jamshedpur among the runners and the citizens of Jamshedpur.

As an event of this grandeur is not possible without the expertise of national, international and Olympic coaches and athletes – a team of 50 professionals and experienced domain experts in the field of run events and 200+ volunteers will be involved in the event and will play a vital role in making this event a success. This year Jamshedpur Run-a-thon is being organised under the aegis of Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and will have participation from Jharkhand Athletics Federation, Master’s Athletics Association of Jharkhand and District Athletics Association East Singhbhum. We have introduced a new category called the Fun Run of 2 KM for children above the age of 12 years and sports enthusiasts who want to experience the Run-a-thon. It also encourages family as one Team to participate.

In line with our sustainability focus, this year for the first time, for every registration, Tata Steel will plant a sapling to further increase the green cover of the city.

This year, the Jamshedpur Run-a-thon is being organised in four categories. While the 10-KM and 7-KM have an age limit of 19 years and above, the 5-KM category will be open to children and adults aged 16 to 19 years. These three categories, competitive in nature, will have a prize money attached to it. The 10-KM is the internationally approved distance for road races by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

The 2022 edition of Tata Steel Jamshedpur Run-a-thon has encouraged the participation from all walks of life – particularly in the segments of trans-genders and senior citizens in addition to usual categories such as – Boys, Girls, Men & Women.

The last physical edition of the Jamshedpur Run-a-thon was organised in 2019, wherein more than 4500 participants participated across three categories, representing 14 Indian States. In 2020 and 2021, the virtual format of the Run-a-thon was organised to ensure continuity and keep the running community engaged. The virtual Run witnessed participation of more than 3000 individuals in each of both the editions.

Encouragement and support for sports at Tata Steel dates back nearly a century, and is part of its culture. Tata Steel has been one of the foremost corporate promoters of Indian sports – having built academies for football, archery, athletics, hockey and sport climbing. In addition to the Jamshedpur Run-a-thon, Tata Steel has over the years championed the cause of fitness through several Run properties like Tata Steel Kolkata 25K Run, Bhubaneswar Half Marathon and Noamundi Run-a-thon across its operating locations to engage with the community through Sports.
