Flood alarm in Jamshedpur low lying areas, DC orders evacuation

Kharkai 6.6 m above danger mark, Subarnarekha 2.5 m

Jamshedpur: Both rivers surrounding Jamshedpur township are in spate due to incessant rains for the past 3 days.

Kharkai river was reported flowing 6.60 meters above danger level and was further rising. On the other hand, the Swarnrekha river too was flowing 2.50 meters above danger level and was expected to rise during the next few hours, if the rains did not stop.

Incessant rains in Jamshedpur have created a flood situation in many low-lying areas.

Several settlements in the low-lying areas have become inundated as the water continues to rise in both Kharkai and Swarnarekha rivers.

The Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav visited the many low-lying areas and asked the residents of the area to shift to safer places.

Water has entered the low-lying settlements of Kadma and Shastrinagar area.

A large number of houses have got submerged there. People were seen outside the house with their belongings trying to shift, while the Deputy Commissioner of the district, Vijaya Jadhav visited these areas in the afternoon.

She has instructed everyone to go to the shelter homes.

The water level of both the major rivers of the city is continuously rising, which can make the situation dire in the next few hours.

Incessant rains for the last 24 hours has now started having its impact and is posing a threat to the people living in lower areas.

Water has entered several settlements in Jugsalai and Bagbera areas too.

Flood water has entered almost hundreds of houses, people are evacuating their homes and going to safe places.

Incessant rains for the last several hours have completely disrupted life for thousands of citizens.

The water level rose dangerously due to the opening of the gate of Odisha’s Vyangvil Dam.

People living in hundreds of houses in the low-lying areas of Jugsalai and Bagbera area have been shifted.

Kishore Yadav, a politician of the area, said that continuous rains have disrupted life for thousands of people.

He said that the locals are making every effort to take people to safe places.
