Karthikeya 2 has everything that the audience would find missing in Lall Singh Chaddha. Originality, engaging experience and a rooted-in-the-soil storyline.
The cinema lovers of Jamshedpur have almost completely ignored Aamir Khan’s Lall Singh Chaddha even during the long weekend with an added holiday due to Independence Day on Monday. However, they have not forgotten to shower love on Karthikeya 2, a Tollywood movie dubbed in Hindi and seeped in adventure and Indic cultural symbolism.
Karthikeya 2 is a wonderful adventure story that weaves a special appeal through its cultural exploration through history.
In a sense, it has everything that the audience would find missing in Lall Singh Chaddha. Originality, engaging experience and a rooted-in-the-soil storyline.
Karthikeya 2 has its ups and downs and perhaps tries to do many things at the same time. But, it has a unique way of unfolding its story that keeps the audience on its toes till the end. And its climax is what would surprise the audience the most, in a memorable way.
The story centers around an archaeologist who stumbles upon a discovery that dates back to Lord Krishna’s era. Yes, Lord Krishna’s era. Isn’t that something rooted in Indic culture that one just cannot imagine from an Aamir Khan movie, or any Bollywood fare, for that matter?
It seems the moviemakers from South have understood the pulse of the national audience. And that is why they are able to churn out mega hits from KGF to RRR with ease that perform far better than Bollywood movies even in the northern part of the country.
The film has a backstory too, presented through a magnificent animation.
The music from Kaala Bhairava is simply stupendous and lilting.
Nikhil Siddhartha, who plays the protagonist Karthikeya, is a man of science who does not believe in spirituality or religion. But, his mother Tulasi does. Karthikeya is compelled to reach Dwaraka where a lot of adventure takes place and mysterious happenings overwhelm him.
The movie has high adventure and a mix of humor too.
Despite an attempt to do several things simultaneously, the movie does give you a very engaging experience and watching the movie is a joyful experience.
No surprise that the movie that had started with only a few shows, is now growing by the day on the strength of mouth canvassing, mostly done by those who have watched the movie.
Karthikeya 2 is another gem from the Telugu film industry that is set in an Indic theme.
And Indic theme seems to be the winner at the box office every time it is tried by the filmmakers from South.
However, movies like Rakshabandhan from Bollywood have tanked miserably.
One wonders if the audience has a way to know and gauge the sincerity, hidden agenda and honesty of the film makers too.
Because, Karthikeya 2 is certainly not lacking in either sincerity or honesty, as far as giving an indic experience is concerned.
We recommend you watch Karthikeya 2 if you want to make your Independence Day really memorable.
While, the shows of Lall Singh Chaddha are still going vacant, Karthikeya 2 is slowly picking up pace and love from the audience even in Jamshedpur. PJP Cinepolis is showing this movie in both Telugu and Hindi versions and the advance bookings show that the movie is slowly winning the box office race.
We give it a rating of 4.5 out of 5, simply because it is a completely engaging movie based on a completely desi theme.
