The former Jharkhand Governor all set to become the first tribal President of the country
Town Post Desk: The NDA has named Draupadi Murmu, the former Governor of Jharkhand, as its candidate for the next Presidential elections. With this announcement, the speculations about the likelihood of Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan being made the NDA candidate for the next President has been laid to rest. Arif Mohammad Khan may have to wait a little before making the cut for the top post of the country.
Even as the opposition parties agreed to field Yashwant Sinha as their candidate, NDA has come to a conclusion that the former Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu would be its best bet for the top post.
If she wins the elections, she would be the first tribal President of India as well as the second female President.
Draupadi Murmu was born of June 20, 1958 and she was at the helms of Jharkhand government as the Governor from 2015 to 2021.
Draupadi Murmu is from Mayurbhanj district of Odisha and has been a teacher before she joined politics. She was elected twice as an BJP MLA from Rairangpur seat in Mayurbhanj. She was also the national executive member of BJP’s ST Morcha between 2013 to 2015.
Analysts feel that she has fair chances of being elected as the next President of the country.
