Jamshedpur: The Omni van driver, who was injured in a road accident near the CRPF camp at Dugni on the Seraikela-Kandra road Monday afternoon, succumbed to his injuries in the course of treatment at Sadar Hospital, Seraikela. The deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Gopal Mahato. The deceased was a resident of Potka.
Sources said that the deceased used to work as a contract worker under SB Enterprises in BSNL.
The BSNL Junior Engineer Jaipal Murmu said that the deceased had gone to Potka for the Shradh ceremony of their mother. He was coming back to Seraikela to join duty today. During his return, he became the victim of a road accident.
The sad demise of Gopal Mahato has shocked his friends. The family members have been informed about the incident.
The incident took place while a Scorpio driver tried to overtake a pickup van near the CRPF camp located on Seraikela-Kandra road.
According to eyewitnesses, the Scorpio driver fled the spot after hitting the Omni driver Gopal Mahato. In order to save himself, Gopal Mahato hit the pickup van going in front of him due to which he got trapped inside his van.
After a lot of effort, the villagers pulled him out of the car. He got serious head injuries. The villagers stopped the pickup van, however the driver of the van managed to escape from the spot.
On the other hand, the Seraikela police reached the place of occurrence and started the investigations.
