Union Minister Arjun Munda paid tributes to Kharsawan martyrs and said that his ministry is trying to identify all the martyrs of Jharkhand to ensure due recognition to them
Kharsawan: The Union Minister Arjun Munda visited Kharsawan Shaheed Sthal on Saturday and paid rich tributes to the martyrs of January 1, 1948 Kharsawan Police Firing.
The first day of every year brings a tinge of sadness to the residents of Kharsawan as they remember the tragedy perpetrated on the local population on January 1, 1948. A large number of innocent tribal lives were lost on that day in the firing made by Odisha Military Police.
A large number of people visited the shaheed sthal to pay homage to the martyrs of Kharsawan firing.
Expressing his condolences to the martyrs killed in the Kharsawan firing, Mr. Munda said that this day is a day to take a resolution.
He said that the Tribal Ministry is preparing the data of the people of the tribal community who were martyred in the freedom struggle, so that the country and the world can be reminded of the sacrifices made by the people of the tribal community in the protection of water, forest and land during the freedom struggle.
It should be noted that on January 1, 1948, a protest was being held for shifting Kharsawan Haat market elsewhere through a meeting, in which thousands of people from the tribal community had gathered.
The meeting was being led by Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda.
However, the program of Jaipal Singh Munda was postponed for some reason.
The then Odisha government ordered firing on the tribals protesting there. As a result a large number of innocent participants were killed.
The whereabouts of many could not even be traced till date.
Since then, on every January 1, a tribute meeting is organized in the memory of the martyrs of Kharsawan firing in Kharsawan.
