Jamshedpur police have arrested 2 persons involved in Mango Munshi Mohalla potato wholesale shop loot case within 6 hours. Search is on for 3 other absconding accused
Jamshedpur: In a major success, the city police have cracked the broad daylight loot of Rs. 1.5 lakh cash in a wholesale potato shop in Munshi Mohalla at Dimna Road Mango and have arrested two persons involved in it. The arrests were made within 6 hours of the incident. However, the SSP confirmed the arrests officially in a press conference on Saturday, about 24 hours post the occurrence of the incident.
Police have arrested 2 persons in connection with the loot. The arrested accused are Md. R, 19, a resident of Kapali and 21-year-old Md. S, a resident of Azad Nagar.
Police have also recovered from their possession two bags, a chopper, a knife, a trouser, a looted mobile phone, Rs 5040 in cash, two bikes, two caps and a T-shirt.
The Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. M Tamil Vanan, the City SP Subhash Chandra Jat, DSP Virendra Kumar and in-charge of the Mango police station gave details of the case and the arrests to the media on Saturday at Mango police station.
The SSP Dr. M Tamil Vanan said that on Friday at 10:15 am, a young man had approached Md Gufran’s potato shop as a customer on the pretext of buying a sack of potatoes.
Two other persons were doing recce.
After some time all three men entered the potato wholesale shop.
They fished out their pistols, threatened and also assaulted Md Gufran.
They looted Rs. 1.5 lakh kept at the cash counter and escaped.
The SSP said that the police team reached the site as soon as the information about the incident was received.
With the help of the local people, the police got information that the criminals had fled towards the river after carrying out the loot.
The SSP said that the police team went towards the river in search of the criminals.
He said that the police saw two youths in suspicious conditions. When the police started moving towards them, both of them jumped into the river.
However, he added, the police managed to catch one, while the other managed to flee.
During interrogation, the one who was caught confessed to having committed the crime.
The arrested person Md. R is a resident of Kapali. Based on his statement, another of his accomplice Md. S was arrested too.
The SSP said that the two accused claimed that they had looted only Rs 30,000 from the cash counter. However, the shopkeeper has said that Rs. 1.5 lakh were looted.
For now, the police are investigating the case.
The SSP said that interrogation is also on for tracing the pistols used in the loot.
3 more of their accomplices are still evading arrests and police are looking for them.
The accused said that they received only Rs. 5 thousand each as their share from the looted money.
The two arrested accused have been sent to judicial custody.
