Satnam Singh Gambhir demands national holiday on March 23 in honour of Bhagat Singh’s martyrdom and supreme sacrifice.
Jamshedpur: Freedom fighter Bhagat Singh was remembered by several organisations in the city on his 114th birth anniversary on Tuesday.
Members of All India Sikh Students Federation, under the leadership of Satnam Singh Gambhir, celebrated the birth anniversary of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, the members of the Federation paid their respects by garlanding his bust at Jemco Azad Basti.
Members of All India Sikh Students Federation paid heartfelt tributes to Martyr Bhagat Singh on his 114th birth anniversary.
They also vowed to follow the path shown by him.
On this occasion, President of AISSF Satnam Singh Gambhir said that now his organization will fight to secure martyr status for Bhagat Singh.
He said that every effort would be made to ensure that the memories of Bhagat Singh get their due.
Gambhir said that he would appeal to the government to declare March 23, the martyrdom day of Bhagat Singh, as a national holiday.
Parvinder Singh said that programs should be organized on Bhagat Singh’s birth anniversary, especially in schools, so that children can know about the struggles of and sacrifices made by the national heroes.
Those who were present on the occasion included Sarabjit Singh Bhullar, Parvinder Singh, Manmeet Luthra, Gurdit Singh Chola, Gurwinder Singh, Harpreet Singh Rikhraj, Amarjit Singh Rikhraj and Manni Singh.
