A delegation of auto drivers demonstrated at the DC Office and sought protection for their lives and alleged that some persons are forcing them to pay rangadaari at the auto stand.
Jamshedpur: Auto-rickshaw drivers of Chaibasa Bus Stand near Tatanagar Railway Station demonstration at the DC office and sought protection from the district administration against those who are forcing them to pay rangadaari.
The auto drivers said that they are in fear as they are forced to part with their money every month although they do not earn enough for themselves.
On Wednesday, a delegation led by AJSU leader Deepak Pandey reached the Deputy Commissioner’s office and complained about being forced to pay money everyday.
The auto drivers took their autos to the DC office and demonstrated in front of it demanding legal action against the mafia who are extorting them.
An auto driver Samsuddin Khan said that extortion money is demanded by the mafia and if they do not give, they are beaten up by them.
He said that all the auto drivers are living in fear.
The same AJSU leader Deepak Pandey said that extortion racket is being run for about one and a half years at the Chaibasa Stand near Tatanagar Railway Station.
He said that if the extortion money is not paid, the auto driver is not allowed to run his business.
For the last two years, the auto drivers have been paying extortion money to the local mafia elements.
The auto drivers have appealed to the administration to intervene and ensure that they are allowed to operate without any fear.
