Dorabji Tata was instrumental in transforming the vision of our founder, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, into a reality.
Jamshedpur: Tata Steel, today, celebrated the 162nd Birth Anniversary of Sir Dorabji Tata, the first Chairman of Tata Steel.
The day began with a homage to Sir Dorabji Tata at Dorabji Tata Park at Jamshedpur. Chief Guest, Sudhansu Pathak, Vice President, Steel Manufacturing, Tata Steel, and the Guest of Honour, Shatrughna Kumar Roy, Vice President, Tata Workers’ Union along with the special guest Dr J J Irani, Former Managing Director of Tata Steel, paid homage to the legend at the park.
The event was attended by select guests including D B Sundara Ramam, Vice President, Raw Materials, Peeyush Gupta, Vice President, Supply Chain, Tarun Daga, Managing Director, Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Limited, senior retired executives of Tata Steel, representatives from the Tata Workers’ Union, among others.
Addressing the gathering, Sudhansu Pathak said: “Sir Dorabji Tata was instrumental in transforming the vision of our founder, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, into a reality. His exceptions and benefactions encourage us to find our pasture, use our capabilities to the maximum, and keep reaching for the stars”.
Shatrughna Kumar Roy talked about the contribution of Sir Dorabji Tata to Tata Steel and said that on this day, we remember Sir Dorabji Tata and his efforts, and his farsightedness that continues to shape the future of Tata Steel.
On the occasion, Dr. J J Irani shared the journey of Sir Dorabji that led to the establishment of Tata Steel and how he pledged his personal wealth including his wife’s jewelry to save Tata Steel from the financial crisis.
To mark the occasion, various online programmes such as the digital exhibition, an online quiz and a photo contest were organised for the employees.
“A Celebration of Sports” a virtual session with the Olympians Neeraj Chopra and Lovlina Borgohain was also organised during the day.
The olympians shared their experiences with employees, cadets and coaches of various sporting academies of Tata Steel who attended the online session in good numbers.
At Jamshedpur, the sports department organised several sporting events and competitions including yoga competition, Inter-JDC Online Chess Championship, Inter-JDC Track and Field Meet, Inter-Training Centre Golf Tournament, eKata Karate Online Championship, TFA friendly matches with Kolkata Clubs, and more.
