Jharkhand Lokayukta D N Upadhyay cremated with state honours

Jamshedpur: The Lokayukta of Jharkhand D N Upadhyay is no more. He died during treatment in AIIMS, Delhi. His dead body was brought to Jamshedpur on Thursday at around 11.00 at his Bhuiyandih residence.

Jharkhand Lokayukta Justice (Retd) DN Upadhyay had breathed his last due to Coronavirus infection at Delhi AIIMS on Monday last.

He was under treatment in Ranchi since May 15 last. However, he was shifted to AIIMS Delhi on June 11 and was put on ventilation there.

The Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Governor Droupadi Murmu alongwith several eminent persons of the State had expressed grief on the Lokayukta’s demise.

His body was brought to the city Thursday and here he was cremated with state honours after a guard of honour.

His family members were present.

Cremation was done at Subarnrekha Burning Ghat.

Even at the cremation grounds, the police jawans gave the departed soul a guard of honour.

His son Nishant Upadhyay completed the cremation rituals.

Those who were present included ADM Nandkishore Lal, SDO Nitish Kumar, City SP Subhash Chandra Jat, DDC, all DSPs, JNAC Special Officer, Advocate Rajesh Shukla and advocate Anil Tiwari besides a several of his relatives and acquaintances.
