Property dispute leads to shocking tragedy
Jamshedpur: In a shocking and tragic incident, a 51-year-old Tata Steel employee Preetpal S committed suicide along with his 21-year-old daughter by jumping before a running train near Jugsalai Railway crossing Wednesday evening.
Both father and daughter died on the spot.
The deceased had a paternal house in Jugsalai. But he used to live in company quarter at Bistupur with his family.
None of the three borthers live in paternal house in Jugsalai.
Domestic quarrel and dispute over paternal property between brothers have allegedly led to the tragedy.
Some people had tried to get their family dispute resolved earlier too, but the effort had failed.
The incident has sent a wave of shock in the entire area.
According to the information received, before the suicide, the deceased had also written a suicide note, in which he held his own two brothers, identified as Paramjit S and Harjit S, responsible for his and his daughter’s suicide.
On the other hand, as soon as the information about the incident was received, the GRP and district police teams reached the spot and took both the bodies in their possession and sent them for post-mortem.
The incident occurred near the railway crossing under the jurisdiction of Jugsalai police station.
Before the incident, both the father and daughter were seen loitering around near the railway gate.
The incident is said to have happened around 7:30 pm on Wednesday.
According to eyewitnesses, Preetpal S was seen writing a suicide note sitting near the railway crossing just before the incident.
He was also showing the picture of his brother Paramjit S to the people around. He was heard saying that his brother is responsible.
Soon after receiving information about the incident, Gurmukh Singh Mukhe, head of the Central Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, reached the residence of the deceased in Bistupur and consoled the family members.
He said that the CGPC will help the affected family in every possible way.
According to the information received, there was a running dispute within the family for some time.
A case of assault was also lodged on December 16, 2020 by the deceased against his brother-in-law Paramjit S with Bistupur police.
However, even after warrant, no arrests were made in the case.
On the other hand, immense pressure was also allegedly being exerted on the deceased to get the case withdrawn.
The deceased allegedly was also being threatened over phone.
In desperation, Preetpal S took his daughter with him and reached the Jugsalai railway crossing with his 21-year-old daughter.
They were seen standing near Jugsalai Petrol Pump for about 15 minutes.
As soon as they heard the horn from an incoming train, they threw the suicide note near the petrol pump employees and ran towards the railway track.
Just before jumping on the track, the daughter allegedly called out to her father saying: “Daddy, tussy vi aa jao, rail gaddi aa gayee”.
Eye-witnesses said that father showed momentary hesitation. However, after the train engine hit his daughter, he slipped under the speeding train.
Eye-witnesses said that seeing the girl standing on the track, the people nearby shouted and warned her. But she did not relent.
Later, a crowd gathered there and the locals also created a ruckus alleging that number of incidents of suicide has increased in recent times at the railway crossing.
Meanwhile, the wife of the deceased has lodged another case of abetment of suicide against her brother-in-law, sister-in-law and their son in connection with the death of her husband and daughter with Jugsalai police.
Police are investigating the case.
