Jamshedpur: Authorised use of the Tata brand name with respect to Wires and Wire products is permitted only under Tata Wiron brand name by the authorised channel partners of Tata Steel.
Tata Steel received information that there are dealers across Ranchi who were selling binding wires wherein the misuse of the Tata mark was evident, and they were deliberately using the Tata name and selling their products. This unauthorised use of the Tata name is infringing on the Intellectual Property Rights of the Tata Sons Pvt Ltd. Based on a written complaint, a joint raid was conducted at a few shops in Ranchi with the help of the Kotwali and Nagri Police Stations.
During the raid, information of a manufacturing facility was also discovered which led to another raid action in the Adityapur Industrial area with the help of Seraikela-Kharsawan Police. Tata Steel observed a total of 185 infringing products in the above locations. This attempt of passing of sub-standard material as that of Tata Steel material affects the consumers as much as it affects the Tata Steel brand name. The products were being sold at a considerable lower price compared to original binding wires sold by Tata Steel under the Tata Wiron brand name.
Tata Steel’s products possess tremendous goodwill in the minds of the consumers by virtue of the quality of the products. Such unauthorised use of the Tata name on wire products which do not meet the quality standards of Tata Steel products hampers the reputation of Tata Steel. Tata Steel condemns the misuse of the trademarks and logos and the use of the trademarks and logos of Tata Steel and Tata Sons without our prior permission.
In furtherance to protecting the companys brand reputation and goodwill, Tata Steel’s brand protection team continuously monitors and acts against entities which are infringing on our Intellectual property rights including counterfeiters.
