Straight contest between Jaimangal and Batul on Bermo seat

Ranchi: Bermo seat is all set to witness an interesting electoral battle in the oncoming assembly by-polls. While, Rajendra Prasad Singh’s elder son Jaimangal alias Anup Singh has been fielded by Congress, BJP has once again fielded Yageshwar Mahato Batul.

The Bermo seat has fallen vacant after the death of Rajendra Prasad Singh. Congress feels that fielding his son Anup Singh will help it in two ways. It feels, while the traditional votes and late Rajendra Singh’s support base would remain intact for it, it feels some sympathy vote would also help it in the elections. JMM is also supporting Jaimangal.

On the other hand, BJP has once again shown confidence in Yogeshar Mahato Batul, who is contesting elections on Bermo Assembly seat for the 5th time.

Batul has the distinction of breaking the victory spree of late leader Rajendra Prasad Singh in 2005. Singh had been winning this seat continuously, but Batul routed him in 2005 for the first time. Later, Rajendra Prasad Singh of Congress again defeated Yogeshwar Mahato Batul in 2009.

This time too Batul will have the support of AJSU too.

Kumar Jaimangal (Anup Singh) is the elder son of Rajendra Prasad Singh. He was inducted into politics when Rajendra Prasad Singh was active. After father’s death, Jaimangal has come into the leadership of most of the trade unions led by Rajendra Singh. Jaimangal has also started building connections with most of the people known to have been supporters of his father. He has started working on his seat quite early and would have an advantage in the by-polls.
