Raghubar Das arrives in Dumka to bolster electoral prospects of Louis Marandi
Ranchi: Basant Soren, the younger sibling of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, has filed his nomination for the by-poll on Dumka constituency that is slated to be held on November 3, 2020.
Dumka seat is likely to see a triangular contest. The seat has fallen vacant after Hemant Soren quit this seat and decided to represent Barhait constituency in the Assembly after winning both Dumka and Barhait seats.
JMM candidate Basant Soren on Monday submitted his nomination papers to Election Officer Maheshwar Mahato. He is the 6th member of his family to join the electoral fray. Before him Sibu Soren, his late son Durga Soren, Hemant Soren and daughter in-law Durga Soren as well as Sibu Soren’s brother Lalu Soren have fought elections. Except Lalu Soren, all others have won elections. Lalu Soren quit politics after the defeat.
JMM candidate will have the advantage of a full backing from RJD and Congress supporters. On the other hand, BJP has again fielded the former minister Lois Marandi. Dumka is a reserved seat. Lois Marandi was routed by Hemant Soren in the last assembly elections. However, she has a good support base in the constituency.
Meanwhile, JPP founder Surya Singh Besra too has announcedhis decision to contest Dumka seat. If he files his nomination on 16th October, as he has announced, the contest will likely take an interesting turn.
The former chief minister Raghubar Das has reached Dumka to bolster the electoral preparations of his party.
The state will also witness a tough by-poll contest on Bermo constituency in Bokaro district on the same day. Bermo constituency by-poll has been necessitated due to demise of Congress MLA Rajendra Singh.
The counting of votes is slated to be held on November 10.
