JPP founder to file nomination on October 16, Dumka by-election likely to see triangular fight

Jamshedpur: The founder of Jharkhand People’s Party and former MLA Surya Singh Bera is all set to contest oncoming by-elections on Dumka seat as a candidate of Jharkhand People’s Party. In a press conference on Saturday in Jamshedpur, Surya Singh Besra himself announced the decision of his party to contest the by-elections.

On Tuesday, the central general secretary of the party Prem Chand Kisku had announced the decision of the party to field Surya Singh Besra in the by-elections.

Kisku had said on Tuesday that Surya Singh Besra is not only an option for the voters, but he is the best candidate for them too as he is the only person who can fulfil the aspirations of the people of this state.

He had said that Surya Singh Besra is a charismatic personality who had resigned from undivided Bihar Assembly on the issue of creation of a separate Jharkhand state.

Today, addressing a press conference, Surya Singh Besra too echoed the same sentiments. He confirmed the decision of his party to field him as a candidate on Dumka seat in the oncoming by-elections. He said that he would file his nomination on 16th October, the last date for nomination. The scrutiny of nominations is scheduled for October 17, while the withdrawal is allowed till October 19, 2020.

Addressing the press conference today in Jamshedpur, Mr. Besra launched a scathing attack on both BJP and JMM and said that he would provide a better alternative to both of these parties.

He said that he is a person, who had resigned from undivided Bihar Assembly on the issue of a separate Jharkhand state and he is not a person who would compromise on the issue of mother-land or mother-language.

Criticising both JMM and BJP, he said that these two parties have ruled Jharkhand for the last 20 years, yet the aspirations of the people are still unfulfilled as these parties did not cater to the interests of the original inhabitants of this state.

He said that he would try to be the voice of the people of this state and point out the lapses of both JMM and BJP.

Surya Singh Besra’s entry into the fray on Dumka seat is likely to be make the contest triangular on that seat as JMM and BJP both would have to factor in his muscular presence too. It is still far-fetched to see which party would benefit from his entry into the electoral fray. However, one thing is certain.

Maverick Surya Singh Besra is going to give a tough time to both the parties. After all, you just cannot ignore a Surya Singh Besra’s presence on any turf.
