Chaibasa police nab active member of PLFI’s Laka Pahan’s group

Chibasa: Chaibasa police have arrested an active companion of Laka Pahan, the area commander of the Maoist organisation PLFI. Chaibasa police are viewing this arrest as a major achievement in the fight against naxalism.

The arrested Maoist had reportedly asked a contractor to pay up Rs. 2 lakh as extortion money.

Police sources say that the police chased and arrested Gede alias Dashaya Purty, a companion of PLFI area commander Laka Pahan from Maoism-hit Bandgaon police station area. He has been charged with demanding extortion money from a contractor.

According to information, Chaibasa SP Ajay Linda had got a tip off about a group of naxal area commander Laka Pahan assembling near Karkatta Bridge in Kantikgel and that they were planning to carry out a major crime.

To verify the information and for necessary action, the officer-in-charge took a force Ott he place. The police force saw 10-12 persons sitting near the bridge. All started running away on seeing the police force. Police chased them and caught one of them.

The arrested accused was identified as Gede alias Dashaya Purty, 20. He is a resident of Murhu under Khunti district.

He described himself as an active member of Laka Pahan group of PLFI. Police said that they had assembled to collect ‘levy’ from the contractor.
