Jamshedpur: In a sensational development, a constable deployed at a Sidhgora Covid Care Centre has been accused of having sexually assaulted a woman constable deployed at the same centre.
According to information received, after a complaint was lodged by the victim, the accused was arrested by the police on Tuesday.
Information says, the accused is a constable of Sidhgora police station and he was deputed at Covid centre. On the other hand, the victim too was deputed at the same centre for protecting a corona positive lady prisoner.
The victim, in her complaint, has said that she was on duty at the centre when the accused approached her and talked to her. Later, he told her that the room at the ground level was not safe due to virus and he would show her a better room upstairs.
She said that she went upstairs with him when the accused gagged her and sexually assaulted her. She said that she was also threatened.
The next day the victim went to the police line and complained to the senior officer. A probe team was formed and the Dy SP CCR probed it and submitted a report. On the basis of the report, an FIR was filed on August 24, the victim was sent for medical examination and the accused was arrested.
According to information received, the victim was recruited in police department on compassionate grounds. Her husband was an ASI, who had died while serving in Palamu district.
The victim hails from Seraikela-Kharsawan district. The FIR also has charges under SC-ST sections. Besides, section 376 (2) too has been applied.
However, the accused has denied the charges and said that one of his friends used to come to meet the woman constable. He too is in police department. He said that since he used to enter the isolation ward, he opposed him and that is why he is being accused falsely.
The police have got him tested for Corona too.
