Ranchi: Jharkhand BJP leaders have demanded a CBI probe into the killing of Rameshwar Murmu, a descendant of the stateś iconic revolutionaries and martyrs Sido and Kanhu.
A delegation of BJP leaders Monday met Jharkhand governor Droupadi Murmu and handed over a memorandum to her.
Meanwhile, the descendants and relatives of Sido-Kanhu have continued to sit on indefinite hunger strike in Bhognadih. The agitators, sitting before the statues of Sido-Kanhu, have said the sit-in would continue till a CBI inquiry is ordered.
They also announced to call off all programmes on 30th June on the occasion of Hul Diwas, the day when the contributions of the great revolutionaries are remembered by one and all.
The agitators have also threatened to stop all political figures and bureaucrats from garlanding the statue of Sido-Kanhu on Hul Diwas.
Murmuś body was recovered from a farm in Manjhi Tola on 13th June last. One Saddam Ansari of Momin Tola has been accused of killing Murmu. He has surrendered before the court.
BJP MP Sameer Oraon accused the police of slackness and also alleged that the state government did not take notice of the incident. He said the BJP workers of all 24 districts would be handing over petitions to DCs on Tuesday. He also announced that the party will not participate in the garlanding ceremony before the statues of Sido-Kanu in protest against the incident.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Hemant Soren has said the state government is ready for a CBI inquiry into the murder. He said the police probe would soon be over and that the findings would be made public soon.
