Avtar Singh Tari: A voice of people departs at 74

Jamshedpur: Condolences poured in from various quarters following the demise of Congress leader Avtar Singh Tari on Wednesday.

Associated with the Congress for the last 55 years, Tari will be remembered as a prominent city personality both in political circles as well as in other fields.

The 74 year-old Congress leader died of heart attack at Tata Main Hospital. Former state Congress president Dr Pradip Balmuchu and senior party leader Ravindra Kumar Jha alias Nattu Jha admitted him to the hospital.

Jha remembered late Tari as a dedicated Congress leader who never switched sides. ¨

Avtar Singh Tari joined the party at the age of 20. He was also associated with many other organizations including several transport associations.

He will be especially known for being popular across all ranks and files in the party.

He had good relations with former Bihar CM Dr Jagannath Mishra and many such influential leaders of the time. He was closely associated with Pradip Balmuchu.¨

Tari, who was on dialysis for the last five years, was vocal on public issues. He always led from the front in support of the people of the city and the state.
