5 more persons test positive in Jamshedpur, total tally at 216

Jamshedpur: Five more new patients have tested positive for Covid-19 in Jamshedpur on Thursday till late night. The total number of infected patients in the city has now reached 216.

The state saw a fresh surge in the number of positive cases in the state as 54 more patients tested positive for Corona.

The maximum number of new patients have been found in Simdega district. On the other hand Ranchi has reported 9, Ramgarh has reported 7, Kodarma 5, Gumla 5, West Singhbhum 2 and Latehar has reported one new case.

With these fresh cases, the total tally in the state has topped 1605.

The sharp rise in the number of new cases in the city has caused a wave of concern among the citizenry as well as the health functionaries. Although, there is no sign of community transmission yet, the apprehension of community transmission finally starting off in the city cannot be discounted completely.

The maximum cases found positive in the city have had a travel history. Besides, the administration has been cautious in keeping most of such cases in quarantine even before they tested positive. This proactive approach has been a saving grace for the entire district.

As most of the cases have had a travel history or some connection with someone who had a travel history, the health officials are confident that once the quarantine period of such positive persons is over, the district would be able to contain the disease effectively. After a brief spurt, the rate of growth in new cases may see some flattening, especially once the quarantine period of incoming migrant labourers passes off, experts feel.

Meanwhile, the district administration as well as the state health officials have emphasized the need to continue with social distancing norms as well as taking precautions like wearing masks and hand washing at regular intervals.
