Chakulia: In a shocking incident, a 55-year-old tribal woman Anjali Tudu was hacked to death by a few people of her own village Bhadradanga under the jurisdiction of Chakulia police station. Police said that the accused called the woman a witch.
The accused had left the dead body of the deceased near a canal. Later, the daughter in law of the deceased, who is also an eye-witness told the police that Vaidyanath Hansda and Geeta Hansda had hacked her mother in law to death on suspicions of witchcraft.
The police have a registered a case of murder and witch-hunting against the two named accused.
Witch-hunting has been a long-standing social evil in some parts of the state and despite social awareness drives and strict legal interventions by the state agencies, the scourge of witch-hunting is yet to be completely abolished in the state.
